All the fire escape staircases leading from the multi-storey car park at the new Asda superstore in Sutton, Surrey have been fitted with EdgeGrip, the stair edge profile that helps towards the new DDA legislation.
The pre-formed robust fibreglass panels were also fitted to various internal staircases around the store used by members of staff. EdgeGrip has a silicone carbon grit top finish which is extremely slip resistant even in the wettest of conditions.
Whilst the traditional checker plate type steps met the requirements with regard to structural capabilities, they lacked the contrasting coloured, slip resistant nosing.
The before and after photographs show the standard galvanised steel staircase and following the application of type 'I' EdgeGrip Standard. The profiles were fitted using a combination of fast cure adhesive and stainless steel self tapping screws. The project, amounting to 624 steps, was completed, without any operational disruptions, in 4 days.
